Biomolecular spectroscopy & dynamics
We are an energetic group of analytical, physical, and biological chemists interested in developing and applying new spectroscopic approaches to understand the biophysics of proteins. By combining linear and advanced two-dimensional infrared techniques with methods of biochemistry and chemical biology for placing vibrational probe groups at specific sites, we map out the conformations and dynamics throughout proteins to evaluate their contribution to biological function. Our studies have focused on several systems with potential to reveal how protein heterogeneity and dynamics are involved in fundamental cellular processes, including metabolism, signaling, and photosynthesis.
